SAN JOSE, Calif. - The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) is pleased to compete in the 16th Annual “Sensei Memorial” Invitational Judo Tournament, to be held Sunday, Feb. 10, at the San Jose State University Event Center in San Jose, Calif.

Blind and visually impaired athletes go head-to-head in competition against sighted athletes from across the United States in their preparations and quest for gold at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. Sponsored by Tiger Claw, competing on the USABA National Judo Team will be:

Greg DeWall (San Francisco, Calif.), 100+ kg
Scott Jones (Little Rock, Ark.), 81kg
Lisamaria Martinez (Union City, Calif.), 70kg
Myles Porter (Colorado Springs, Colo.), 100kg

All four athletes competed in the 2007 World Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil and the Parapan American Games in Rio de Janeiro this past summer.

Coaches for the team are Willy Cahill (San Bruno, Calif.), Raul Tamayo (Redwood City, Calif.) and Scott Moore (Englewood, Calif.).

USABA athletes will also participate in a training camp at Cahill’s Judo Academy in San Bruno, Calif., Feb. 8-9 and Feb. 11-12.

The training camp and tournament are the first of two mandatory events at which athletes must compete to qualify for the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials - Judo in April. The tournament is USA Judo Senior E-Level for USABA judo athletes preparing for the 2008 Paralympic Games in September.
