Wagner wins quad title at NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters

David Wagner (USA) won his third NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters quad singles title when he beat defending champion Peter Norfolk (GBR) on Saturday in Amsterdam.
Meanwhile, Michael Jeremiasz (FRA) upset world No. 1 Shingo Kunieda (JPN) to reach Sunday's men's singles final against defending champion Robin Ammerlaan (NED) and Korie Homan set up an all-Dutch women's final against Esther Vergeer.
World No. 1 quad player Wagner recovered from a bad start in Thursday's round-robin pool match against Norfolk to beat the world No. 2 0-6, 6-4, 7-5, but the American had fewer problems on Saturday, beating Norfolk 6-4, 6-1 to add to his previous two titles in 2004 and 2005.
In the men's singles semi-finals world No. 4 Jeremiasz secured his first win over Kunieda in their last six meetings, the Frenchman reaching his second NEC Masters final with an exciting 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory.
In a repeat of the 2005 final Jeremiasz will now play defending champion and world No. 2 Robin Ammerlaan (NED). Ammerlaan thwarted any hopes of an all-French final when he assserted late on in his semi-final against World No. 3 Stephane Houdet (FRA) to prevail 7-5, 7-5 and stays on course for a sixth NEC Masters title.
An all-Dutch final in the women's singles was already assured after the world's top four players reached the semi-finals, but it was world No. 3 Korie Homan who earned the right to take on world No. 1 Esther Vergeer in Sunday's title decider. Homan won an enthralling semi-final against world No. 2 Sharon Walraven 6-0, 6-7(4), 6-4, while Vergeer remains on course to take her collection of NEC Masters titles in to double figures following her 6-1, 6-3 win over world No. 4 Jiske Griffioen.
Saturday's other play-off matches saw Sarah Hunter (CAN) beat Nick Taylor (USA) 6-1, 6-3 to earn third place prize moneny in the quad singles.
Meanwhile, in the men's singles Maikel Scheffers (NED) claimed fifth place after edging countryman Ronald Vink 6-4, 7-6(4). For the fourth time this week Tadeusz Kruszelnicki (POL) saw a one set lead disappear as he was beaten 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 by Satoshi Saida (JPN) in the play-off for seventh place.
World No. 5 Florence Gravellier (FRA) comfortably sealed fifth place in the women's singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mie Yaosa (JPN), while Annick Sevenans (BEL) ended her first NEC Masters on a positive note after edging Young-Suk Hong (KOR) 7-6(6), 7-5 to claim seventh place.
