U.S. Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Festival at Lakeshore Foundation This Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The United States Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Festival, sponsored by the National Wheelchair Basketball Association, will be held at Lakeshore Foundation, an official U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Site, this weekend. The competition, held June 29 - July 1, features all 12 athletes from the U.S. Paralympics Men’s Wheelchair Basketball National Team as well as 24 of the nation’s best up-and-coming players.
The players are split into four squads—the U.S. national team, East, West and South—that will be competing in a round-robin style tournament throughout the weekend. Games begin on Friday, June 29 at 6:00 p.m. with the U.S. team taking on the West. The games continue on Saturday and the championship game will be played on Sunday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. A complete schedule of games is listed below and a roster of players is available upon request.
This weekend also serves as the final training camp for the U.S. team prior to their departure for the Parapan American Games, which will serve as the qualification tournament for the 2008 Paralympic Games. The U.S. will have to finish in the top three to secure a spot at the upcoming Games in Beijing, China.
Media are invited to attend and all games are also free and open to the public.
