U.S. Captures Quad Title at 2007 Invacare World Team Cup

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - The U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) today announced that the United States won the Quad title at the 2007 Invacare World Team Cup, held June 11-17 in Stockholm, Sweden at the Allmanna Lawntennis Klubb.
The U.S. defeated the Netherlands in the finals, winning 2-1. David Wagner (Hillsboro, Ore.) won his singles match and teamed with Nick Taylor (Wichita, Kan.) to win the deciding doubles match, capturing the title. This marks the third consecutive year that the U.S. has captured the World Team Cup title in the Quad Division.
The Quad Team featured Bryan Barten (Tucson, Ariz.), Brent Poppen (Paso Robles, Calif.), Taylor and Wagner. The squad was coached by Jason Harnett (Irvine, Calif.)
The 2007 Invacare World Team Cup, the premier wheelchair tennis team-based international competition, featured 32 nations from around the globe. The U.S. Men's, Women's and Junior Teams finished seventh, fourth and seventh, respectively.
The men's team, coached by Dan James (Oakdale, Minn.), was made up of Paul Moran (Glenview, Ill.), Larry Quintero (San Antonio, Texas) and Jon Rydberg (Oakdale, Minn.). The women's team, coached by Paul Walker (Lakeland, Fla.), featured Beth Arnoult-Ritthaler (Paia, Hawaii), Jan Proctor (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Kaitlyn Verfuerth (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.). The juniors, coached by Kari Yerg (Boynton Beach, Fla.), was Emmy Kaiser (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.), Dylan Levine (Paramus, N.J.) and Mackenzie Soldan (Louisville, Ky.).
The USTA was officially designated by the U.S. Olympic Committee as the national governing body for the Paralympic sport of wheelchair tennis in June 2002, becoming the first Olympic national governing body (NGB) to earn this recognition. As the NGB for wheelchair tennis, the USTA manages wheelchair tennis in the United Sates, including the sanctioning of tournaments, overseeing wheelchair rankings, creating and managing a High Performance program for developing elite athletes with physical disabilities, and selecting teams to compete internationally for the United States.
