Garcia-Tolson Sets New World Record, Bureau Reaches Elite Team Status at German Open
Cody Bureau reached Elite Team status with his performance in the 100m Butterfly at the German Open.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Rudy Garcia-Tolson (Bloomington, Calif.) improved on his world record time in the 200m Individual Medley, Cody Bureau's (Latrobe, Pa.) performance in the 100m Butterfly elevated him to Elite Team status, and 12 American records were broken at the German Open in Berlin, May 24-27.

Garcia-Tolson set the record during the Saturday morning prelims, finishing with a time of 2:42.18, before going on to win gold in the event in the evening. He also set an American record in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:25.76, and his split time of 40.77 was also a new American mark.

Bureau's jump from the National Team to the Elite Team came off the strength of his first 50m split in the 100m fly. He set American records in the prelims (29.71) and the finals (29.67) with his split time, and his finals time of 1:03.75 met the Elite Team Standard.

Other strong performances came from Kelley Becherer (Sheboygan, Wis.), who set three American records (100m free, 200m free and 400m IM) and Roy Perkins (Del Mar, Calif.), who set American marks in the 100m free and 200m IM.

The next event for U.S. Elite and National Team athletes will be July 13-15 at the Summer Can-Am Swimming Championships in Vancouver.
