U.S. Athletes Win 13 Medals at Visa Paralympic World Cup
Galli, McFadden each win two golds

U.S. athletes combined to win 13 medals at the third annual Visa Paralympic World Cup this past weekend in Manchester, United Kingdom, and featured four athletes with two medals apiece.

Jessica Galli (Urbana, Ill.) and Tatyana McFadden (Clarksville, Md.) each won two gold medals, LeAnn Sagmeister (Jacksonville, Fla.) won a silver and a bronze and Jessica Long (Baltimore, Md.) swam away with a gold and silver to be the only U.S. swimmer with multiple medals. McFadden earned gold in the T54 400 and 800m while Galli won both the T53 200 and 400m events. Sagmeister finished second behind Galli in the T53 400m and was a bronze medalist in the T53 200m. Long finished first in the S8 800m butterfly and finished second in the women’s multi-disability 100m freestyle.

The U.S. earned three other track and field medals, highlighted by a 1-3 finish by Jeremy Campbell (Perrytown, Texas) and Casey Tibbs (San Diego, Calif.) in the men's F44 long jump. April Holmes (Somerdale, N.J.) earned the other medal, finishing second in the women's F44 long jump. In the women's F40 shot put, Jill Kennedy (Charlottesville, Va.) set a personal record on her way to a sixth-place finish.

In swimming, Jarrett Perry (Wichita, Kan.) took the gold in the men's S9 100m backstroke, while Lantz Lamback finished second in the men's S7 50m free. Cody Bureau (Latrobe, Pa.), a member of the Paralympic Resident Athlete Program, set two personal bests in the 100m back and 100m free, while Michael DeMarco set an American record in the men's S3 100m free. Miranda Uhl (Alachua, Fla.) finished sixth in the women's SM6 200m IM, but the big story was that her time qualified her for the U.S. Paralympics Swimming National Team.
