COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, has partnered with the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) to award up to eight scholarships to blind and visually impaired cross-country skiers and their guides who wish to attend the International Ski for Light in North Conway, N.H., Jan. 21-28, 2007. These scholarships will help offset the cost of the event for skiers and guides who wish to advance their skill and become competitive Nordic skiers.
During the week, the event will feature several technique sessions and special-interest activities, as well as many evening social events and entertainers. The week concludes with a 5K rally and 10K race. Participants will be staying at the North Conway Grand Hotel and will be spending the week skiing the Great Glen Trails, located in the Pinkham Notch section of Gorham, N.H.
Ski for Light, Inc. is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization founded in 1975. The mission of the organization is to teach blind, visually- and mobility-impaired adults how to cross-country ski in an atmosphere that encourages participants to realize that the only true limitations that they face are the limitations that they place on themselves. In 2006, Ski for Light received an Access Award from the American Foundation for the Blind, a highly prestigious honor awarded to those organizations, individuals and corporations who work to eliminate the inequities faced by people who are blind or visually impaired.
