The University of Central Oklahoma’s department of Disabled Sports and Events will host the inaugural Sitting Volleyball World Challenge, Oct. 6-9 in Edmond, Okla.  Teams from the United States, Bosnia and Mongolia will compete in a round-robin competition at UCO’s Wellness Center.

“The men’s sitting volleyball team has been practicing at UCO for more than a year, and it will be exciting to see them competing on their home court,” said Shelly Ramsey, event coordinator for Disabled Sports and Events.  “It is a great opportunity to educate the public and our students about Paralympic sports and prepare our athletes for the 2008 Paralympic Games.”

The U.S. Paralympics Men's Sitting Volleyball Team recently finished ninth at the 2006 Sitting Volleyball World Championships, while Mongolia was not part of the 12-team field.

The 2006 Men's Sitting Volleyball World Champions from Bosnia were originally scheduled to be part of the event, but were forced to withdraw from the competition.
