U.S. Men's National Goalball Team to Hold Training Camp in Lake Placid
2004 Paralympian Chris Dodds will be one of nine athletes in Lake Placid looking to earn a spot on the U.S. team that will compete at the IBSA World Goalball Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA), in partnership with U.S. Paralympics, is conducting a training camp for the U.S. Men’s Goalball National Team April 12-17 at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.

The training camp will be the final camp before athlete selection is made for the 2006 International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) World Goalball Championships in Spartanburg, S.C., June 26-July 2.  The World Championships is a qualifying tournament for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.

“Following a bronze medal finish in the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games, the men’s goalball team has strong momentum to carry them into the World Championships and are in the best position for a medal,” stated Mark Lucas, USABA Executive Director.  “The team and coaching staff have worked extremely hard both on and off the court which will pay off as they attempt to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.”

Among the athletes invited are Tyler Merren (Kalamazoo, Mich.), Chris Dodds (Myton, Utah), Edward Munro (St.Augustine, Fla.), John Mulhern (Lebanon, Pa.), Donte Mickens (Tallahassee, Fla.), Daryl Walker (Jacksonville, Fla.), Timothy Dornbrock (Jay Beach, Fla.), Steve Denuyl (Clinton, Mich.) and Nick Gassaway (Kalamazoo, Mich.).  Head coaches are Tom Parrigin (St. Augustine, Fla.) and John Potts (Shiloh, Ill.).

The mission of the United States Association of Blind Athletes is to increase the number and quality of grassroots-through-competitive, world-class athletic opportunities for Americans who are blind or visually impaired. For more information, visit our website http://www.usaba.org/.
