USABA to Host U.S. Women's Goalball Team Training Camp March 17-19
Camp will be last before National Team selection

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) is pleased to play host to the U.S. Women’s Goalball Team in their final training camp before the U.S. Paralympics Women’s Goalball Team is selected. The camp will take place March 17-19.

The training camp will allow the team to prepare for the IBSA World Goalball Championships in Spartanburg, S.C., June 26-July 2. The team also will compete in the DEFI Sport Invitational, April 28-30 in Montreal, Canada, and the Malmo Lady Intercup International Goalball Tournament, May 25-29, in Malmo, Sweden.

“We will be doing a lot of scrimmaging at this camp as we still need to adapt our play to some of the new rule changes as well as working various combinations trying to determine who best fits into the team makeup for the World Championships this summer,” said head coach Ken Armbruster (Colorado Springs, Colo.).

Training sessions will be held in the upper gym at the Colorado Springs School for the Deaf and Blind, located on the northwest corner of Pikes Peak and Hancock Street.  Session times are as follows:

                     Friday, March 17:                    7:00-9:00 pm

                     Saturday, March 18:                9:00 am-12:00 pm, 2:00-4:30 pm, 7:00-9:00 pm

Sunday, March 19:                  10:00 am to 12:00 pm, 2:00-4:00 pm

Among the athletes attending the camp are Paralympians Jennifer Armbruster (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Lisa Banta (Boonton, N.J.), Robin Theryoung (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Asya Miller (Battle Creek, Mich.).  Also attending the camp are 2004 Paralympic alternates Lindsay Sloan (Lakewood Colo) and Jackie Barnes (Golden, Colo.), along with Trisha Chase (Murray, Utah), Stacie Jenkins (St. Augustine, Fla.), and Kristin Millerov (Cairo, Mich.), members of the USA Youth gold-medal winning team at the 2006 IBSA World Youth Championships.  The U.S. Women’s Goalball Team is led by head coach Ken Armbruster and assistant coach Sharon Gunderman (Dubois, Pa.).

Goalball is a unique team sport that is exclusively for blind and visually impaired athletes.  All sessions are open to the public.

The mission of the United States Association of Blind Athletes is to increase the number and quality of grassroots-through-competitive, world-class athletic opportunities for Americans who are blind or visually impaired. For more information, visit our website http://www.usaba.org/.
