“Over the next few months we will be selecting a team of six athletes from the eleven who have been invited to the camp to compete at the IBSA World Championships this summer in Spartanburg, S.C.,” stated coach Ken Armbruster.  “The World Championships is a qualifying tournament for the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008, and therefore the coaches and I expect the camp to be very competitive between all of the athletes as this is the first step toward the medal stand in 2008." 

Training sessions will be held at the Colorado Springs School for the Deaf and Blind, located on the northwest corner of Pikes Peak and Hancock Street.  Session times are as follows:

                    Friday:  7:00-9:00 p.m.

                    Saturday & Sunday:

                                     8:00-11:30 a.m.
                                     1:30-4:30 p.m.
                                     7:00-9:00 p.m.

                    Monday:

                                     9:00-11:30 a.m.
                                     2:00-5:00 p.m.

Among the athletes invited are Paralympians Jennifer Armbruster (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Lisa Banta (Boonton, N.J.), Robin Theryoung (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Asya Miller (Battle Creek, Mich.).  Also attending the camp are Jackie Barnes (Golden, Colo.), Trisha Chase (Murrah, Utah), Charity Ryder (St. Augustine, Fla.), Stacie Jenkins (St. Augustine, Fla.), and Kristin Millerov (Cairo, Mich.), all members of the USA Youth Gold Medal team at the 2006 IBSA World Youth Championships.  Joni Owen (Des Plaines, Ill.) and Lindsey Sloan (Lakewood, Colo.) round out the athletes attending the trials camp.  

The U.S. Women’s Goalball Team is led by head coach is Ken Armbruster (Colorado Springs, Colo.) along with assistant coaches Christy Householter (Garland, Tex.) and Sharon Gunderman (Dubois, Pa.). 

Goalball is a unique team sport that is exclusively for blind and visually impaired athletes.  All sessions are open to the public.
