U.S. Paralympics Table Tennis Championships set for Las Vegas Dec. 13-17

The Organizing Committee supported by the USA Table Tennis Disabled Athletes Committee, the American Wheelchair Table Tennis Association, and U.S. Paralympics is delighted to inform you that on December 13-17, they will be hosting the U.S. Paralympics Table Tennis Championships at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.  We have already received our first entries and we have 19 countries including the USA that will be participating with over 100 athletes, wheelchair and standing.  The countries that has so graciously responded are Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong,  Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Nederland, Pakistan, Russia, Slovak, Sweden, Tajikistan, Turkey and the USA.  Since 1994, USA Table Tennis has hosted the nationals for the disabled in Las Vegas in conjunction with USA Table Tennis Closed Championships.  This year is the first time that we will be hosting an international tournament instead of our Nationals.

The officials for the tournament are:  Ray Cavichhio of the United States, Referee; Karol Ziduliak of Canada, Deputy Referee, Margita Homolova of Slovak Republic, Technical Delegate, Jennifer Johnson, Organizing Chair,  Michael Lo Russo and Sharon Frant Brooks of the United States, Tournament Directors, Dr. Norma Angelica Patino Marquez of Mexico and Gina Maggio of the United States, Classifiers.

The official equipment is Butterfly tables, nets and Nittaku 3-star 40mm orange balls.  We will play on a total of 22 tables suitable for wheelchair and standing.  Play will be held on two surfaces – red rubberized floor for standing and concrete for wheelchairs.

The official tournament hotel is the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino of Las Vegas.  Meals will be provided by the hotel.  The City of Las Vegas Adaptive Recreation Division will provide the athletes with lunches for two the days of competition.  There will be wheelchair equipped shuttle buses every twenty minutes between the Stratosphere and the Las Vegas Convention Center.

There will be an IPTTC Umpires Seminar on Tuesday, December 13 at the Stratosphere starting at 8:00 PM.  The seminar lectures and presentations will be given by Karol Ziduliak of Canada.
