Coordinator of Sitting Volleyball Position Available with University of Central Oklahoma
The University of Central Oklahoma, the official training site for the U.S. Paralympics Men's Sitting Volleyball Team, is currently accepting applicants for a sitting volleyball coordinator. The individual in this position will provide operational support for the development and implementation of programs and services to strengthen USA Volleyball's Sitting Volleyball program for men and women. These programs will be coordinated with UCO Disabled Sports & Events activities.

USA Volleyball has announced that the U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team has qualified for the 2008 Paralympics, Sept. 6-17 in Beijing, China. Although the Pan American zone, in which the United States sitting teams compete, did not have a qualifying tournament, the U.S. women’s team qualified by virtue of its fifth-place finish at the 2006 Sitting Volleyball World Championship and because the Afro Arab zone did not have a champion to send.

The U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball team will play China’s national team during the Sit-Volleyball World Challenge hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in Edmond, Okla. The World Challenge is being held inside UCO’s Wellness Center with team events scheduled from Dec. 3-6, 2007. Practice for the teams will be held throughout the four days with three games to be held from Dec. 4-6. Game times are Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., Dec. 5 at 9 a.m., and Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.

Before a deafening crowd of Brazilian fans, the U.S. Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team lost the Parapan Am Games gold medal match to Brazil in five sets (24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 9-15). “We were a little inconsistent and made too many errors,” said Head Coach Bill Hamiter. “They passed and blocked very well. We let them squeeze out the first game (24-26). If we hadn’t done that, I think we would have seen a different outcome.”
