U.S. Paralympics//Coordinator, Paralympic Military (2 Positions - Locations: San Antonio, TX - Bethesda, MD)
SUMMARY:
Provides operational support for the development and implementation of Paralympic programs and services to facilitate the rehabilitation of severely injured service members and reintegration of those service members into their communities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Functions include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Develop and implement an annual operational sports plan which addresses the collective needs of injured service members within the area of the medical center(s) and region being served. 2. Coordinate the operational sports plan for injured service members with key leadership of rehabilitation programs/services, and medical hold (holding) companies. 3. Coordinate the delivery of sports plan services with local and/or community-based sports programs. 4. Coordinate the delivery of sports plan services with Paralympic and/or coaches and Paralympic athletes. 5. Ensure that all logistical support needs are provided for the delivery of the operational sports plan. 6. Develop a “Trainer of the Trainer” program for all delivered sports. 7. Coordinate the development of quarterly training clinics for affected parties. 8. Coordinate logistical support for select individuals to participate in regional training camps. 9. Coordinate logistical support for select individuals to participate in USOC Paralympic Military Sport Camps. 10. Facilitate the transition of service members to American Legion programs and services including but not limited to the “Heroes to Hometowns” program, Paralympic Sport clubs and other community based support groups as appropriate. 11. Coordinate the development and submission of information which documents the results (versus process) of the operational sports plan. 12. Communicate on a regular basis with the U.S. Paralympic Military program coordinators from other medical centers. 13. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or five years of appropriate experience in Paralympic or Military sport programs. Preference will be given to degrees in the areas of sport management, recreation, adaptive physical education or related field. • Previous experience working in a Paralympic sport environment and military preferred. • Must demonstrate quality communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills required. • Candidate must have demonstrated ability to be a self-starter who can develop and implement a program with limited direct supervision. • Candidate must have the ability to travel.
