U.S. Paralympics//Coordinator, Paralympic Military (Colorado Springs Location)
SUMMARY:
Provides operational support for the development and implementation of Paralympic programs and services to facilitate the rehabilitation of severely injured service members and reintegration of those service members into their communities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Functions include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Coordinate the development of operational contracts in support of programs and services at each of the DOD Medical Treatment Facilities. 2. Facilitate the development and implementation of annual sports plans at select Medical Treatment Facilities which addresses the collective needs of injured service members within the area of the medical center(s) and region being served. 3. Ensure coordination of operational sports plans for injured service members with key leadership of rehabilitation programs/services, local and/or community-based sports programs and Paralympic coaches and Paralympic athletes. 4. Develop and implement a regional training/competition program for injured service members to be delivered through a combination of existing and/or new programs in key locations. 5. Develop and disseminate an annual training/competition schedule of local, regional and national opportunities for injured service members currently receiving in or out patient medical services. 6. Facilitate the development of ongoing training programs as a component of the Warrior Barracks programs at Camp Lejeune and Camp Pendelton. 7. Develop a “Trainer of the Trainer” program for all delivered sports. 8. Assist in the planning and implementation of the annual Paralympic Military Sport Camps. 9. Coordinate the evaluation component of the Paralympic Military program including the gathering and summarizing of both the process and out come results. 10. Facilitate the transition of service members to American Legion programs and services including but not limited to the “Heroes to Hometowns” program, Paralympic Sport clubs and other community based support groups as appropriate. 11. Facilitate coordination and communication among all key training sites for injured service members. 12. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or five years of appropriate experience in Paralympic or Military sport programs. Preference will be given to degrees in the areas of sport management, recreation, adaptive physical education or related field. • Previous experience working in a Paralympic sport environment and military preferred. • Must demonstrate quality communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills required. • Candidate must have demonstrated ability to be a self-starter who can develop and implement a program with limited direct supervision. • Candidate must have the ability to travel.
