Christina Jones
- Qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team
- 2006 U.S. Synchronized Swimming Athlete of the Year
- Finished fifth in the solo competition at the 2005 World Championships; also earned a fourth-place finish in the team competition
- Led the Santa Clara Aquamaids to three national titles (2003, 2004, 2006)
- Born in Missoula, Mont. and moved to California when she was four
- Attended Vista alternative school, which allowed her to complete her school work on her own time, as long as she checked in once a week for tests
- Her career goals are to become a sports physical therapist or a sports psychologist
- If she could be any celebrity, she would be a professional football player because she thinks "it would be pretty incredible to play the sport you love for millions of dollars."
- Her favorite candies are Dove chocolate and Swedish Fish
- Her role model is two-time synchronized swimming Olympian Anna Kozlova
- Competed in soccer, gymnastics, ice skating and swimming "I knew I wanted to go to the Olympics, but I didn't know in what. That's why I did so many sports, I was trying to figure out what I'd be good at," she told the San Jose Mercury News.
- "My favorite part of the routine (at 2005 Worlds) is when I turn from good to evil because it is such a fun part to play. I am aiming for perfection. Even though I don't think I will reach it for another couple of years, I am working towards this goal."
- By the time she was 17 years olf, Jones had competed in five international events, winning the bronze at the 2005 Rome Open, silver in duet at the 2004 Junior Worlds in Moscow, silver at the 2004 German Open and fifth in solo at the 2005 Worlds.
- "She's a sensation," three-time Olympic coach Chris Carver said.
She made her first national team at 14, the self-described underdog, and marks that achievement as one of the high points in her career so far. Competing in Beijing in 2008 might override that. “I love being in a team sport because you can play off of your whole team. You can look next to you during practice and know that that person is giving just as much as you are,” Jones said. “I also love performing. Performing for people and knowing that they love what I’m doing.”
"Everyone's always asking me 'are you going to the Olympics?' I've always had to say 'I hope so, that's my plan.' Now when they ask, I can say 'Yes, I'm going to the Olympics,'" Jones told Inside Bay Area newspaper.
