- Won gold in the four at the 2004 BearingPoint World Cup stop in Lucerne
- Won gold in the pair with coxswain at the 2003 FISA World Championships
- Won silver in the pair with coxswain at the 2002 FISA World Championships
- Won gold in the double sculls at the 2002 USRowing National Championships
- Three-time national team member and a first-time Olympian
- Began rowing after the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s rowing coach recruited him while he was playing pick-up basketball
- Most memorable sporting achievement was competing in the AAU National Championships in basketball at the age of 17
- Earned the team's Most Improved Athlete award while playing college basketball at Bryon College (he later transferred to UTC)
- When he’s not rowing, he enjoys mountain biking, trail running, horseback riding, reading historical fiction or The Economist, and playing pick-up basketball
