Weirs coach at Swim Atlanta, Chris Davis, thinks a heavy regimen of weight training an hour six times a week since April 2003 played a key role in her success. He initially had to bribe her into the weight room with candy bars. At first it killed me, my muscles were dead for a while, Weir told USOlympicteam.com. For a while her performances deteriorated, making her and Davis nervous. But now, she realizes, the weights have definitely helped me a lot.
I am big into goal setting. I begin every season with goals and write them down. Chris and I talk about them and those are the things that push me in practice, Amanda explained. My goals are to set American and World records. That is what I am definitely shooting for in the next couple of years. -- March 2006, Points North Magazine
