Finals of the 200 free at Olympic Trials might have almost felt like another day of workout for Ketchum and two of his training partners, Klete Keller and Peter Vanderkaay. After all, the trio took up three of eight lanes in the final, and they are used to racing each other in practice on a regular basis. Vanderkaay is also on the UM team and Keller, who gave up his NCAA eligibility to turn pro, trains with Club Wolverine, coached by University of Michigan coach Jon Urbanchek. All three men have now made the Olympic team, along with another Wolverine, freestyler Andrew Hurd, who qualified for the Canadian Olympic team.
Ketchum told a writer for the Big Ten conference that he really loves the 200 free. “That is my favorite. I just like that distance. I know how to swim it and I’m comfortable with it. It’s not too tiring.”
