Kirk, Dana
- 2004 Olympian, finished ninth in the 200m butterfly
- Became the first sisters to swim at the same Olympics when her older sister, Tara, qualified for the 2004 Olympics
- Two-time bronze medalist at the 2003 Pan American Games in the 100m and 200m butterfly
- Finished eighth in the 100m butterfly at the 2005 World Championship Trials
- At 2003 Nationals, took second in the 200m butterfly and fifth in the 100m butterfly
- Won her first Pac-10 individual victory in 2004 in the 100m butterfly, also second in the 200m butterfly and first in the 200m and 400m medley relays
- Won 21 victories during the 2003-2004 college season, the second highest number on the Stanford team
- As a freshman, took sixth in the 100m butterfly and ninth in the 200m butterfly at NCAAs in 2003
- Made waves out of the pool as well as in it her senior year in high school, when she was named Associated Student Body President, Female Athlete of the Year, Student of the Year and Homecoming Princess
- Introduced to water at 6 months old for safety reasons ... the family's backyard had water on each side
- Messy as a child, Tara would seperate their shared room with tape and kick all of Dana's possessions to her side of the room
Representing Stanford, Kirk is following in the footsteps of many legendary butterfliers. The coaching staff say she is right on track to match their performances. “Dana Kirk continues the tremendous tradition of butterfliers that we have had at Stanford,” says the school’s web site. “Along with Summer Sanders, Jenny Thompson, Jenna Johnson and Misty Hyman … here comes Dana Kirk. She was better than we thought she would be last year, and we thought she would be awesome.”
Her advice to young swimmers is “Work hard in the pool because dedication can take you further in life than talent ever can.”
