Devine, Jennifer
- 2004 Olympian, qualified in the single sculls
- 1996 Olympian, finished ninth in double sculls
- Won the single sculls at the 2004 Olympic Qualification Regatta
- Was seventh in the single sculls at the 2001 World Championships
- Following her 1996 Olympic experience, she quit competing to assist caring for her father, who had suffered several heart attacks and a stroke in 1997; he died in 2001
- A week after his burial, she began training again, attended World Trials on a lark, buying a three-day advance plane ticket, borrowing a boat … she qualified in her first race in two years
- Earned a medical degree and an undergraduate in molecular biology from the University of Washington
- Delayed the start of her residency in Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation to train for Athens
- Never competed in sports through high school; learned to row in 1990 in an intramural program at the University of Washington, after being told she was too small to try out for the intercollegiate program
- Five-time U.S. National Team member
She currently works part-time as a medical transcriptionist and has volunteered for several years with the CityDoc Free Teen Clinic, a night clinic for street-oriented youth. She currently represents her class on the Board of Directors of the UW Medical Alumni Association and served on the Board of Directors of the George Pocock Rowing Foundation for three years.
"A year from now, I'm going to be in a hospital and on call every four nights, and I think I will reflect fondly on this lactic acid pain I'm now in. This isn't somebody dying, this isn't life or death."
