Benko, Lindsay
- Two-time Olympian and team captain (2000, 2004)
- 2004 Olympic gold medalist in the 800m freestyle relay (prelims), silver medalist in the 400m freestyle relay (prelims)
- 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the 800m freestyle relay
- 2004 Short Course World champion in the 400m freestyle relay, 800m freestyle relay; silver medalist in the 200m freestyle
- Is the world record holder in the 200m and 400m freestyle (short course) as well as American record holder in the 200m freestyle, 400m and 800m freestyle relay
- Won two gold medals and a silver at the 2003 World Championships (setting American records with each gold medal)
- Has a total of five gold medals, five silvers and one bronze from three Short Course Championships (2004, 2002, 2000)
- Earned a total of five gold medals, four silvers and one bronze at three Pan Pacific Championships (2002, 1999, 1997)
- Won 11 U.S. National titles in four different individual events
- Captained the World Championships teams (2001, 2003), Pan Pacific Championship teams (1999, 2002), 2004 Short Course World Championship team and the 2001 Goodwill Games team
- Inducted into the Indiana Swimming Hall of Fame at the 2003 Spring Nationals and she went on to win her ninth U.S. National title that evening
- Considered retiring after the 2000 Olympic Games, but was so disappointed by her individual swims in Sydney that she committed herself to Athens in 2004
- Writes a monthly column in her hometown newspaper, the Elkhart Truth (Ind.) and works as an assistant coach at her alma mater USC for her coach Mark Schubert, but after swimming -- "I'd like to work in public relations for a non-profit organization."

Benko is one of the most vocal and supportive National Team members. She gets the same support each day from her own family. "Without my family, I would not be here today," Benko said. "They are so supportive without being pushy. They play a huge part in my quest to make the Olympic Team."
On what success means to her: "Success to me means being happy," she wrote. "I consider myself a pretty normal person. I am not successful because of swimming, I am successful because I am happy and healthy."
