Basketball: (July 31) The 2007 USA Women's U19 World Championship Team (5-0) needed all four quarters and 28 points from Jantel Lavender (Cleveland Central Catholic H.S. / Cleveland, Ohio) to secure a late 74-66 win over Spain (3-2) in second-round action of the 2007 U19 World Championship For Women in Bratislava, Slovakia. (July 30) Boasting of eight players in double-figure scoring, the 2007 USA Women's U19 World Championship Team jumped to a 20-point first quarter lead over South Korea and never looked back, cruising a 113-69 win in the second round of the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship For Women in Bratislava, Slovakia. (July 28) The USA Women’s U19 World Championship Team advanced to the second round of World Championship play with a perfect 3-0 record after topping Lithuania (1-2) 90-50 in the final preliminary contest of the 2007 U19 World Championship for Women in Bratislava, Slovakia. (July 27) Led by five players in double figures, the USA Women’s U19 World Championship Team improved to 2-0 with a 101-60 blowout of China (1-1) in its second contest of the 2007 U19 World Championship in Bratislava, Slovakia. Incoming Duke Freshman Krystal Thomas (The First Academy / Orlando, Fla.) recorded her second double-double in as many nights, tallying a game high 17 points and collecting 11 rebounds. (July 26) The USA Women's U19 World Championship Team(1-0) jumped out to a 30-5 first quarter lead and never looked back to cruise to a 95-25 win over Ivory Coast (0-1) to open preliminary play in Bratislava, Slovakia. Led by game-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds from Krystal Thomas (The First Academy / Orlando, Fla.) and 13 points from Angie Bjorklund (University H.S. / Spokane, Wash.), all 12 U.S. players scored in the contest. Beach Volleyball: (July 29) Phil Dalhausser (Orlando, Fla.) and Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) became the first U.S. men's team to win a SWATCH-FIVB Beach World Championship title at the US$1-million “Beach Bash” in Gstaad, Switzerland. (July 28) The fourth-seeded Phil Dalhausser (Orlando, Fla.) and Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) advanced to the semifinals with a 21-19 and 22-20 win in 55 minutes over No. 9 Penggen Wu and Linyin Xu, one of two teams from China. (July 28) The U.S. team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh made it look easy as they captured their third straight SWATCH-FIVB Beach World Championship in Gstaad, Switzerland. Opponents averaged 14 points per set in 16 sets against the U.S. powerhouse team. (July 27) Two-time defending world champions Misty May-Treanor (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kerri Walsh (Santa Clara, Calif.) shut out three opponents en route a spot in the semifinals at the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Beach Volleyball Championships in Gstaad, Switzerland. (July 26) Seven U.S. beach volleyball teams – four men’s and three women’s – advanced to the first round of single-elimination play at the SWATCH-FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Gstaad, Switzerland. Top-seeded Misty May-Treanor (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kerri Walsh (Santa Clara, Calif.) continued to roll, going undefeated in pool play and not dropping a set in three matches. (July 25) Five U.S. beach teams, including two-time defending world champions and top-seeds Misty May-Treanor (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kerri Walsh (Santa Clara, Calif.), remain undefeated after the second day of pool play at the SWATCH-FIVB Beach World Championships in Gstaad, Switzerland. May-Treanor and Walsh defeated their compatriots Tyra Turner (Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.) and Rachel Wacholder (Laguna Beach, Calif.) 2-0 (21-9, 21-14). Bobsled: (July 31) The U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Team is searching for America’s best male and female athletes at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee, Wis. from August 3-5. For more information, log on to www.usbsf.com

Bowling: (July 26) The United States Bowling Congress and Roger Dalkin, USBC Chief Executive Officer, announced that Dalkin would retire after 30 years of service to USBC and the bowling community. For more information, log on to www.bowl.com

Cycling: (July 30) USA Cycling announced the eight athletes it will send to the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup event in Beijing, August 20-21. Four men – Kyle Bennett (Conroe, Texas), Donny Robinson (Napa, Calif.), Mike Day (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and Randy Stumpfhauser (Sanger, Calif.) – received nominations to the team. Four women were also selected for the squad – Krystal Hime (San Antonio, Texas), Kim Hayashi (Chandler, Ariz.), Amanda Geving (Largo, Fla.) and Jill Kintner (Seattle, Wash.). (July 30) Americans closed out the 2007 UCI BMX World Championships with 9 gold medals, 10 silver and five bronze to bring the total U.S. medal count for the three-day event to 68. (July 28) Only one year away from the debut of BMX racing at the Olympic Games in Beijing, Kyle Bennett (Conroe, Texas) captured a world title in the elite men’s race at the 2007 UCI BMX World Championships while teammate Randy Stumpfhauser (Sanger, Calif.) won the bronze medal. (July 27) The UCI BMX World Challenge featured 266 Americans as 1,204 riders from 35 nations took part in the annual world championship event. The United States swept the podium in three different age categories – the 10-year-old boys, the 12-year-old girls and the 13-year-old boys – and collected gold and silver in seven others. (July 26) Eight women’s endurance athletes have been invited to a USA Cycling Talent Identification Camp in Colorado Springs, Colo., Aug. 7-13. (July 26) Taylor Phinney (Boulder, Colo./TIAA-CREF-5280) took the overall victory at one of the world’s top junior stage races, Le Tour de l’Abitibi in Canada. (July 25) USA Cycling announced the U.S. roster for the 2007 UCI Junior Road and Track World Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico, August 4-12. In the men’s road events, Ben King (North Garden, Va./Hot Tubes) earned automatic nominations to compete in both the road race and time trial by virtue of his recent victories at the national championships two weeks ago. Diving: (July 31) The synchronized diving teams that will compete for national titles at the Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships have been finalized. (July 31) AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and USA Diving have announced that the upcoming 2007 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships, a key milestone in the march toward the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, will be streamed live exclusively on AT&T’s content-filled AT&T blue room site (July 30) Among the divers competing at the Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships are 2000 Olympic gold medalist and 2005 world champion Laura Wilkinson (Spring, Texas) and all eight members of the 2007 Pan American Games team. Gymnastics: (July 29) Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind., won the senior all-around title at the 2007 U.S. Classic in Battle Creek, Mich., and 2005 world floor exercise champion Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass., won three individual events. Judo: (July 29) Sayaka Matsumoto (El Cerrito, Calif. / NYAC / East Bay Judo Institute) won her second consecutive bronze medal in the 48kg division at the biannual Pacific Rim Championships in Macau. For more information, log on to www.usjudo.org

Rowing: (July 31) Racing at the 2007 World Championships Trials got underway on Lake Mercer with heats in the women’s single sculls, men’s pair, men’s single sculls, lightweight men’s single sculls and lightweight women’s single sculls. (July 27) The U.S. women’s eight won its race for lanes to highlight the second day of competition at the 2007 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Strathclyde, Scotland. The U.S. rowed even with Belarus through the first 500 meters before taking the lead, clocking a 6:32.04 to beat Germany by more than five seconds. (July 26) The U.S. women’s quadruple sculls and men’s eight won their heats to highlight the first day of competition at the 2007 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Strathclyde, Scotland. In the women’s quadruple sculls, Gevvie Stone (Newton, Mass.), Esther Lofgren (Newport Beach, Calif.), Lindsay Meyer (Seattle, Wash.) and Alie Fishman (Dallas, Texas) clocked the fastest time of the heats to advance to Sunday’s final. Swimming: (July 31) The ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships got off to a blazing start, with two meet records broken on the first day of competition. Olympian Erik Vendt (North Eaton, Mass.) of Club Wolverine eclipsed his own meet record in the 1500m free, while Trojan Swim Club’s Rebecca Soni (Plainsboro, N.J.) broke the meet record in the women’s 200m breast. Taekwondo: (July 30) USA Taekwondo has announced an initiative whereby Taekwondo supporters, as well as supporters of the Olympic movement, who are unable to attend the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Taekwondo, Aug. 23-24 in Colorado Springs, can purchase tickets and have them donated in their name to U.S. soldiers stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. (July 26) The 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Taekwondo will be held August 23-24, 2007, at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Trials will determine which four athletes (two male, two female) will compete at the World Olympic Qualifier in Manchester, England, Sept. 28-30, 2007. Track and Field: (July 25) Two national youth records in the 4x800 meters relay fell to highlight second-day action at the 41st USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College. The Texas Stars smashed the intermediate boys' standard with a 7:41.30, and the United Stars lowered their own national best with an 8:50.72 in the young women's event. Eric Gosset, Jodale Burkley, Howard Shepard and Kourtney Payne teamed up to knock almost 13 seconds off the previous intermediate boys' record, set in 2005 by the Ohio Flyers TC. (July 25) Alan Webb was named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting a new American record in the mile at the Atletiek Vlaanderenmeet in Brasschaa, Belgium. Webb finished the race in 3 minutes 46.91 seconds, breaking National Track & Field Hall of Famer Steve Scott's 1982 record of 3:47.69. (July 25) Thanks to a grant from the USA Track & Field Foundation, National Track & Field Hall of Famer Kevin Young, the world record holder in the men's 400-meter hurdles, took part in "Be A Champion" youth outreach program during the opening ceremonies for the 2007 USATF Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships. Also on hand in Walnut were 800m American record holder Johnny Gray and two-time Team USA 100-meter hurdler Jenny Adams. For more information, log on to www.usatf.org

USADA: (July 30) The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced that Kenta Bell of Decatur, Ga., an athlete in the sport of track and field, tested positive for a prohibited substance and accepted a suspension for his first doping offense. USOC: (July 30) From Aug. 9-12, 72 athletes ages 8-13 will converge on the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. for the U.S. Jr. Olympic Skills competition. For more information, log on to www.usocpressbox.org

Volleyball: (July 31) The 2007 U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team is set to embark upon the 2007 FIVB World Championship July 31-Aug. 11 in Tijuana and Mexicali, Mexico. The star-studded U.S. squad is vying for its first World Championship medal finish. (July 27) In a marathon two-hour and four-minute battle, Japan outlasted the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team 3-2 (25-16, 14-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-23) for the bronze medal at the FIVB U-20 Junior World Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. (July 26) An overpowering 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) Brazilian victory ended gold-medal hopes for the U.S. Women's Junior National Team at the FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Kelly Murphy (Wilmington, Ill.) led the United States with 11 points in the match, including nine kills, one block and one ace. For more information, log on to www.usavolleyball.org

Water Skiing: (July 31) USA Water Ski has selected Jamie Beauchesne (Loudon, N.H.) and Regina Jaquess (Suwanee, Ga.) as its Male and Female Athletes of the Month for July. The U.S. Pan American Games Water Ski Team was selected as Team of the Month. (July 30) Fourteen athletes won national titles at the inaugural MasterCraft USHA Nationals, presented by Crocs, July 26-29, on Little Soda Ski Lake in Lakewood, Colo. (July 31) USA Water Ski has selected Jamie Beauchesne (Loudon, N.H.) and Regina Jaquess (Suwanee, Ga.) as its Male and Female Athletes of the Month for July.
