08 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Shotgun

KERRVILLE, Texas (March 11, 2008) – There is one day of Trap competition to go at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Shooting (Shotgun). Going into tomorrow’s final day for Men’s and Women’s Trap, Bret Erickson (Bennington, Neb.) and Corey Cogdell (Eagle River, Alaska) continue to hold the lead.

Three-time Olympian Erickson remains in first place for Men’s Trap with a total score of 431 targets. There is a three-way tie for second place going into the final day of Trap competition between Air Force shooter Dominic Grazioli (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), three-time Olympian and 1996 bronze medalist Lance Bade (Vancouver, Wash.) and John Mullins (Bremerton, Wash.) with 422 targets. U.S. Army Marksmanship (USAMU) members Matthew Wallace (Stanton, Tenn.) and Matthew DePuydt (Houghton, Mich.) are tied for fifth place with 421 targets.

In Women’s Trap, Cogdell, the 2007 Pan American Games and World Cup Korea bronze medalist, has a 12 target lead going into the final day of Trap competition with a total score of 412 targets. USAMU shooter Joetta Dement (Renton, Wash.) jumped into second place with 400 targets; followed by 2004 Olympian Collyn Loper (Indian Springs, Ala.), who is in third place with 398 targets. Susan Sledge (El Cajon, Calif.) continues to hold fourth place with 393 targets, while Kelsey Zauhar (Lakeville, Minn.) and USAMU member and 1996 Olympian Theresa DeWitt (Cincinnati, Ohio) are in fifth and sixth place with 392 and 391 targets respectively.

Men’s and Women’s Trap competition concludes tomorrow with the last set of matches as well as the finals, which will determine the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team for Trap.

Top shotgun shooters from around the United States are vying for spots on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Shooting (Shotgun) March 8-16, which is being held at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center in Kerrville, Texas. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Shooting is a collaborative partnership between the U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Shooting.

Shotgun athletes will be selected to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team based on the aggregate score from both the Fall Selection competition, which was held last August and the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Shooting (Shotgun).

There are eight spots available to the U.S. Olympic Shotgun team: Men’s Skeet, 2; Men’s Trap, 2; Men’s Double Trap, 2; Women’s Skeet, 1 and Women’s Trap, 1.
