The women’s team was coached by Janusz Peciak (Colorado Springs, Colo.), USA Pentathlon’s Fencing/International Modern Pentathlon Coach.

The USA Pentathlon Team was split for the weekend as the World Cup #4 competitions were held in two different countries. The women competed in Moscow, Russia and the men in Budapest, Hungary.

Eli Bremer (Monument, Colo./Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force) led the USA men with a 16th place finish in the final in Budapest. Bremer scored 5,364 total modern pentathlon points in the event. The World Cup #4 was the beginning of a three week European campaign for the USA Pentathlon Team. Following the weekend’s competition, the USA Pentathlon Team reunited in Drzonkow, Poland for a training camp at Poland’s National Pentathlon Training Center from May 14-23. The training camp is a continuing extension of international cooperation between the Pentathlon teams representing the two countries. The USA and Poland have both participated in training camps at each other’s national training centers over the past few years. Janusz Peciak, 1976 Olympic Gold Medalist in Modern Pentathlon for Poland and the Fencing/International Modern Pentathlon Coach for the USA Pentathlon Team has been instrumental in developing this relationship with the Polish team.

Michelle “Mickey” Kelly (New York, N.Y./Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) elected to not attend World Cup #4, but will join Taormina, Isaksen, Bowsher, Bremer, Manske, Sacksen and coaches Peciak and Christie for the training camp in Poland.

Team USA will then split again for competition in World Cup #5, May 24-27, before returning to the U.S. The men will compete in Drzonkow, Poland and the women in Szekefehervar, Hungary.
